Everyday the students at Pace University walk among one another, and don’t even know the inspiring people they’re walking next to.
If you’re walking next to freshman Tess Petreycik, that’s just the case.
Petreycik, a native to the big town of Stratford, Connecticut, where she grew up with her older brother, mother, and father. Petreycik is a Psychology major here at Pace. In her time in high school, she participated in softball and volleyball, and hopes to continue her volleyball career when she joins the volleyball intramural here. Since high school, Petreycik has taken full advantage of her time here at Pace by dedicating her time to homework and studying. Why is she at Pace? “I’m at Pace because Pace is the place.” she laughed. “Pace wasn’t my first choice, but I came here because I feel like it has the best learning environment.”
While her drive and athletic and academic careers are impressive, they’re not the only things that make her stand out among her fellow students. A little over a month before she had to come to Pace, Petreycik’s father passed away from cancer. She notes her father as being her biggest inspiration, and says he taught her to always have an optimistic attitude through tough situations. “I want to follow in my dad’s footsteps.” she says. While she’s fitting in comfortably at Pace and enjoying her time here, she says it’s still hard because it hadn’t really hit her yet that he was gone until the day after she moved in.
Still, even with the hardship she’s been through, Petreycik still manages to find a smile and brighten her friends days. Keep being an inspiration to us all, Petreycik!
