Pace Rocks the Vote

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, odds are you know at least something about the 2016 Presidential election.

Come this November 8th, American citizens will exercise their privilege to vote, and choose between the Republican and Democratic candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, respectively. However, while many college students are of age to vote (except for a small percentage of freshmen who may still be 17) it is expected that many of them will skip out on voting on election day. According to USA Today, the United States Census Bureau reported that “on average, less than half eligible young adult voters will actually make it to the polls for a national presidential election.”

Many believe that this trend is existent because college-aged students aren’t particularly motivated because they don’t think their vote will make a difference.

So how is Pace University working to combat this? With events like the Pre-Debate Panel and Debate Viewing Party held in the Kessel Multipurpose Room this past Monday night, it is evident that the University is actively working to get students involved in the political process. Throughout the event, the school ran a table providing voter registration forms for students to fill out if they had not registered yet.

Come election day, the school also will be providing free transportation throughout the day to the local voting places to make sure students will be able to cast their votes.

Not sure if you’re registered to vote? You can check by going online to http://www.canivote.org/ and typing in you’re information!
